 My Favorite Comic Ever

My favorite comic cover ever!

How I Pick My Comics

I favor female superheroes but I also love some of the male titles, too. I pick titles based on the characters I like most.

What Is Your Most Prized Possession?

My Spider-Woman #1 from 1978 signed by Joe Sinnot, the cover artist

How I Got Started

I got my first comic when I was 7. It was a Superman Family featuring Supergirl. I'd liked watching Superman (George Reeves) on TV, but the idea of a GIRL version was so exciting!!!!!!! I got a Wonder Woman the following year and a few Superman comics here and there. However, I didn't really get into comics until I laid eyes on Spider-Woman #1 in 1978. I was only 12 and Jessica Drew's story hit home for me. An outcast girl who didn't fit in with the world. The story was inspiring. She chose not to ruin her future even though she came from a tragic past. I collected all the Spider-woman books, also She-hulk, dazzler

My Favorite Comics

Spider-Woman original series, She-Hulk (original and new series), Ms. Marvel (original and new series), The Silver Surfer (LOVE him), Superman and his family of characters, Hulk (old and new), Skaar, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Batwoman, Batgirl, and my current top favorite POWER GIRL!!!!!! I'll read a wide variety of comics. I just love the medium. I had stopped reading comics in the mid-1980s for the most part and didn't pick up very many in the 1990s. I began collecting again in 2007 when I first heard Spider-Woman would be coming back with her own title. I've been more impressed with comics than ever now that technology has allowed them to become real works of art, beyond the level they were in my childhood (the artists back then were Wonderful! Imagine what they might do with today's print capabilities).

Advice

  • My advice is not for people looking to turn a profit. Its for people looking for a fun hobby. Spend lots of time in a comic store browsing. Look at the art, the characters and see what calls to you. Don't be afraid to check out comics by companies other than Marvel and DC. Dynamite has some great stuff, as does Aspen, Image, IDW and others. Comic shows are great places, as well as flea markets, to find back issues of comics that are pretty cheap. Some shows have boxes with books for 25 cents or 50 cents. Its hard to go wrong for that price if the books are to your liking. Also, check out digital comics, too!
