Secret Invasion is a crossover event from Marvel Comics. It tells the story of how the alien race known as the Skrulls, a group of shape changing beings whose home world has been destroyed, have been infiltrating earth. They have gone so far as to even overtake many of the superheroes as well.

The invasion was first discovered by the superheroes in New Avengers #31, when the Avengers were fighting Elektra and the Hand assassins and during the battle it was discovered that Elektra was a Skrull. This showed two things. One was that the Skrulls were undetectable as even Wolverine could not tell she was a Skrull. The other was that there must be other heroes and villains who have been replaced and since they were not detectable, anyone could be a Skrull.

Issue #1
A Skrull transport lands in the Savage Land and while the Mighty Avengers prepare to find out what is in it, the New Avengers, tipped off by Spider-Woman, steal a Quinjet to beat them to it. Iron Man shows Henry Pym and Reed Richards the Elektra/Skrull impostor and tasks them with finding a way to detect these new undetectable Skrulls.

The Skrulls strike as Dum Dum Dugan (Skrull) sabotages the S.W.O.R.D. headquarters orbiting Earth and Edwin Jarvis (Skrull) shuts down Iron Man’s armor and the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters – The Hellicarrier. Things go from bad to worse when both penitentiaries the Raft and the Cube are overridden and their prisoners are set free, but The Thunderbolts are attacked by Captain Marvel.

The issue ends when the Mighty and New Avengers are confronted by the contents of the Skrull transport, a host of older era superheroes, including copies of themselves. With only minutes left of air, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Brand sees a Skrull armada making their way to Earth. The issue ends when Reed Richards discovers how the Skrulls are remaining undetected but is then betrayed by Hank Pym (Skrull) and is shot with an unusual weapon, seemingly stretching Reed to the limit.

Main Revelation – When each Skrull attacks, they whisper the phrase, “He loves you.”
