One of the many projects that artist Steve Lieber was working on was an ad for the company Original S.W.A.T. In one of the pages of the comic ad, there is a panel of a soldier running away and we see the boot right in our face. Since this was an ad for a product, it was vitally important that the tread of the boot was spot on. The neat thing was that everything was done except for the boot and they were taking some photos to make sure that it was exactly right.
It was neat to be able to look into the life of a freelance artist. In thinking about comic artists, one can forget that they don't just have to create comics. Being an artist allows them to do an abundance of other artistic work, such as character designs, storyboards for films and TV, ad work, and other art related projects. Also, freelance artists, don't necessarily know what they can count on month by month for money so they usually take whatever they can get. Working in a studio with other artists can come in handy when you get in a bind and need some assistance with backgrounds or other aspects of artwork.
