Writer/Artist: David Gallaher/Steve Ellis
Summary: It’s the fading days of the Old West in the late 1890’s when an enigmatic drifter, Matthew Macgregor, ambles into the dusty town of Blest, Texas. The nights are cold in Texas as Werewolves secretly haunt the town, but Macgregor has a supernatural secret of his own. When the sun sets it’ll be a showdown at High Moon.
Comments: Although the title is a little punny, I like the concept of this one. I don’t know of many action/drama based webcomics to make it as the timing on a once a week story will be tough.
Title: Leprenomicon
Writer/Artist: Greg DelCurla/Fernando Ruiz
Summary: In old Ireland, when the banshee sings for you it means that your time on this Earth is coming to an end. But American Michael O’Connor refuses to take this news lying down. With the (forced) help of a kidnapped Leprechaun, he intends to solve the mystery of his own death even if it turns the world of faeries, gods, and plain old normal folk upside down.
Comments: I think this will be a blend of action and comedy. I could see this entry getting bogged down with idiosyncratic fairy tales. The writer will need to present the characters and legends in a way that will be easy to digest.
Title: Raining Cats and Dogs
Writer/Artist: Sho Murase
Summary: A young, snake-haired gorgon named Mika, winds her way through the contemporary, everyday wonderland of dating, work, after-hours adventures and everything in between alongside her friends Apple (a rokurokubi energy-vampire), Feebe (a bake-neko cat girl) and Akiha (a normal human).
Comments: This entry is definitely geared for the Manga and Anime crowd. I imagine it will be in a Manga style, but wonder how it would do with a more contemporary look. There are a lot of Manga fans out there, but are they rabid enough to catapult this entry to the top?
My Picks:
Best Title: Dead in the Now – I like this title the most as it really jumped of the list of entries. Too bad I didn’t like the premise as much.Best Premise: High Moon – Although the title was a little much, I could see this easily being a cool series. I worry that the once a week content won’t be enough to sustain interest and keep it going.
Most Original: This American Strife. Blogging has really become a force in the internet world, and if this comic is done well, it could easily be something to transition to mainstream media.
