What Do They Do?:

Comix Relief provides comic books to troops overseas and on the front lines. Many soldiers do not have the ability to purchase such items and it provides a much needed escape from their worries fighting for our country.

How You Can Help:

Comix Relief needs two main things. Comics and money to ship those comics. If you wish to send a contribution to Comix Relief, be sure to email Chris Tarbassian at operationcomixrelief@yahoo.com. Donations can be directly made via Paypal at – operationcomixrelief@yahoo.com.

Chris also needs addresses of soldiers overseas as the military requires packages sent to individual soldiers.

History:

What started as a way to send some comics to a friend has become an organization dedicated to getting comic books into the hands of American troops overseas. In 2003, Chris Tarbassian sent some comics to his friend, an Air Force Flight Nurse to give out to soldiers recovering from wounds on the field of duty. When word began to spread, Operation Comix Relief was born.

Chris went from sending out that first sortie of two packages, to sending as many as 95 in a week. The cost of sending material overseas is huge and Tarbassian has often took money out of his own pocket to get them over to soldiers, some of whom have absolutely no form of entertainment.

Many people have stepped up to the plate, from local individuals who have made donations of cash to others who have donated whole collections to the cause. Even publishers like Image Comics have jumped into the cause to send comics to our troops.

Whether you agree or disagree with the wars overseas, the men and women in the military have no choice but to go. Many are separated from their friends and family and could truly use some distraction from their situations. Operation Comix Relief works to help those men and women who fight so hard on a daily basis.
