The Story:

When Zombies Attacks Chronicles the exploits of the P.M.A.C. – Post Mortem Animation Control. At the reigns of this organization is Frank, a rough and tumble officer who is as cool and calm as can be in this world gone to the undead. Frank’s partner is Chet, a man who seems to have the undead, primarily zombies, talking to him. A most unusual occurrence indeed.

Review:

When Zombies Attack started out as a movie short by creature effects people Chad Waters and Matt Rose. The film is about 15 minutes long and has a sort of COPS feel to it. It is worth checking out along with the follow up, Waker Safety a short film about being safe around zombies taught by puppets.

This issue is late. About one and a half years late. I don’t know what the creators were thinking, but I worry about the timeliness of this comic. The first issue was pretty good and set things up, but I fear that without it, people will be lost. This comic may just be for their hardcore fans, but with the high quality paper and coloring involved in this comic, one can imagine to publish it cost quite a penny.

After checking out their website www.whenzombiesattack.com it appears that the creators Matt Rose and Chad Waters aren’t short on work. They also moonlight as makeup and creature effects artist who have worked on films like Hellboy, The Ring, Batman Returns and Forever, Predator, and many others. It leads me to think this comic book is a labor of love for them.

The comic does have many good points. The art and writing are fine and the paper quality of the comic is fantastic, putting some of the bigger companies to shame. The cover is outstanding and is probably my favorite part of the whole endeavor. Cover artist Mike Huddleston has a strong future in comics if he keeps up work like this.

Conclusion:

If it weren’t for it’s lateness, I think this comic would have fared better in my rating. But as it is, it may be hard to jump into without the first issue. If you are fans of the zombie genre you may like this comic, but I hesitate to get your hopes up due to its late schedule.
