BOOM! Studios was started by Ross Richie and Andrew Crosby. The two had known each other in their time working at Malibu Comics and had left there to pursue the bright lights of Hollywood. They launched BOOM! in 2005 and was voted Best New Publisher by Wizard Magazine. They have since gone on to grow to be one of the larger of the independent publishers by making bold moves in their publishing regime. They were the first publisher to release a digital comic book on the same day that it was released in print. They also made news by announcing a partnership with Stan Lee to launch new titles that he partnered in creating.
BOOM! has also become known for their licensed properties. They resurrected The Muppet Show, Farscape, and Darkwing Duck. They also hold the license to do work with Disney characters.
