Introduction

For those of you who are fans of the DrawerBox (TM). system, of which I am one, one of the issues with the line was that they were only available in the long box format. No more! DrawerBoxes (TM). has taken the feedback from their uses to create a short version of their DrawerBox (TM). system. And just like the first and original DrawerBox, it is excellent.

The Purpose

Much of the basic function of the DrawerBox system is covered in the original long box review, but some of which will be repeated here. Basically the DrawerBox system is designed so that you can stack you comic books up on top of each other and still have access to all of the comics in the stack. Enter DrawerBoxes (TM). This makes all of the comics in your collection accessible without having to move boxes around.

From their website:

“This unique design means that you can gain more storage space per square foot than was previously possible by stacking the boxes higher. It also means you won't have to lift another box again to find a comic.”

This makes them ideal for storing in out of the way places such as a closet or in a small narrow space in your office or room. They also work fantastic lined up and stacked on a wall, giving you a wall of comic books. The bottom row is just as accessible as the top row.

Construction

Just like their larger counterparts, the short DrawerBox (TM) is of a superior construction. The thickness of the drawer and housing in which it sits is amazing. It looks like it is almost double the thickness of your normal comic book boxes, which is a great thing.

Another thing that continues to impress me about these items is the overall design of the product. The people over at the DrawerBox (TM) company have really taken many things into account, such as not wasting cardboard, as well as adding in little features that others may leave out.

Attached to the DrawerBox (TM) are a four extra bits of cardboard that would undoubtedly be cut off in the manufacturing of other boxes. What they have done instead is to make these abe to pull off and be used and comic separators. It’s a nice added thing and also helps cut back on waste.

Another feather of the DrawerBox (TM) is the tab that is in the inside sleeve, acting as a stop for the drawer. This makes it so that you don’t get past the tip over point to easily. You can still take the drawer out, they just recommend you don’t do it to often as it can damage the system. Having that stopper is really handy in keeping your comics from spilling out on the floor.

Another part of the system is their new BoxLox (TM) box anchoring system. This is a small plastic button that will connect the walls of two sleeves together, “anchoring” the boxes so that even the topmost drawer can be pulled out and accessed without fear of tipping over. They also have a template that you can use to make your older DrawerBoxes (TM) BoxLox (TM) compliant.

You can see just how much thought has gone into the product. This easily helps me recommend this product to comic fans all over.

What’s Not To Like?

The good news is that there is little to complain about this product. The biggest concern is going to be the price. $8.50 a box is pretty steep, but the benefits, in my opinion, far outweigh the cost. Many comics in my closet have been unread and unlooked at for the basic fact that it was such a hassle to get to the comics at the bottom. Not so anymore. Any comic in my collection is easily accessible and able to be read at a moments notice.

The other problem right now is the potential limited availability in retail comic book stores. You can order them through their website, but shipping will be a factor. When you think about the markup though, as many local stores sell them for a higher price than what you can get at the website, shipping may be a wash. The only other issue here is that you need to order lots of 5.

Vital Specs

Cost: $8:50 (Be warned that some stores may charge more for the boxes.)
Size: 9" wide, 18" deep, and 13 3/16" tall.
Capacity: About 150 Bagged and Boarded Comics

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Super Heavyweight Construction
  • Stackable Design
  • Maximises Space
  • Quality Design
Cons
  • Cost – They are almost twice a normal long box.
  • Many comic stores are not yet carrying them. Here’s a list of stores that carry DrawerBoxes.

In Conclusion

If you haven’t checked out this product yet, and have a lot of comics, do yourself a favor and get into a DrawerBox (TM). If you are just starting out collecting, this is still a solid choice for the collector. It will make accessing your comic books over time a breeze, allowing you to store them easily in out of sight places and still enjoy your entire comic book collection all at once. I highly recommend this product and hope you will check it out.
