Introduction

Traveling with your comic books is a dicey proposition. There are few things that will properly protect your comic books while on the go. The traditional bag and board is sorely inadequate for protecting your comic books from the extra wear and tear that comic books come under while on the road. The reason to take your comics with is many. You might want them to be signed at a convention or event, in which case protecting them is of supreme importance. You might want some reading material for the flight or drive to your destination, or you may even just want to take them down the street to a friend.
Any way you look at it, if you care about the condition of the comic book, then you need some extra protection to keep them safe. Millcase, the company that brought the jewel case for comic books, has a new product that just might be the thing you need to take your comic from point A to point B safely.

A New Kind Of Case

Overall, this case is pretty nice. The smaller ConCase can comfortably fit around 7 bagged and boarded comics and the larger ConCase G will hold more as well as being able to handle graphic novels.

The main thing I like about this is the transportability of the ConCase. It fits easily under your arm or hand. If it was much bigger, I think it would be more of a hassle. The limited capacity I think is a good thing, unless you have a million comics to bring to a convention, in which case you’re better off with a comic storage box. I for one, would not want to lug around something like that though.

Potential Negative Aspects

The negatives are few, with the main one for me being the handle. When you open up the case, the handle can easily fall out and get lost. This is evidenced by the fact that if you look at the first picture of this review, you will see that one is missing the handle. Yes, I lost it already. The good thing about this, is that I don’t really see myself using the handle all that much. I’d probably be more likely to hold it under the army, notebook style.

The other thing that purchasers need to think about is that it won’t protect things one hundred percent. They can move around in the case and hit corners, which is my biggest concern. The positive thing here is that this is going to be true no matter what you put your comic books in. You should just know about this and be prepared with either some extra padding, or have enough comics inside to minimize movement. Either way, it is a lot more protected if it didn’t have the ConCase to protect it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Solid construction.
  • Excellent usability.
  • Cost – pretty cheap for what it does.
  • Easy to transport – backpack, briefcase, box.

Cons

  • Limited capacity.
  • Handle seems wonky.
  • Still moves inside the case.
  • The large case can’t handle two regular sized comics side by side in bag and board.

In Conclusion

I really like this product from Mill Case. It is a straightforward design that does it’s job. It isn’t going to protect things 100%, but it adds a lot more protection and makes an easy carrying case to boot. It isn’t perfect, but I’m glad the things that aren’t right with the product have littleimpact on how it performs.

If I have a choice as to whether my comics are with or without a ConCase, I’d choose with, without a doubt.
