DC has some of the more well known comic book characters of all time. They have what is known as the trinity of comic book characters - Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. With these three characters, DC has the first superhero in Superman, the hero with the top comic book movie of all time in Batman, and the best known female hero in Wonder Woman. Add to that a classic list of other characters and you can see why DC has become known as one of The Big Two.
Take a look at which of DC's characters made the cut in the top DC comic book superhero characters of all time.
Superman is without a doubt one of the most well known superheroes in the world. He is recognizable in so many places where there isn't even a comic to be sold. He is one of the earliest superheroes and his first appearance is continually making records at the auction house and has no signs of stopping. Not only is he the top superhero of them all, but he is easily the top DC superhero by far.
Fans love Batman. Maybe it is the fact that he is a normal man and still saves the world that people flock to him the world over. His movies are record setting blockbusters and he is chipping away at Superman for the top spot in DC's roster. Batman is dark, mysterious, and full of bravado making him firmly near the top.
3. Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is the most well known female superhero. She has had a long standing television show, cartoon appearances, and her own comic book title. Wonder Woman has transformed into a figure larger than her comic counterpart by becoming a symbol of woman's rights all over.
4. Green Lantern
Although there are many Green Lantern's in the DC universe, Hal Jordan - the Green Lantern of sector 2813 - is the most powerful of them all. He is the best that the Lanterns have to offer and has saved earth time and time again. The DC universe would be a sad place without the Green Lantern and in recent years he has risen the ranks of DC's elite.
5. The Flash
The fastest man alive is king of the speed force and is one of DC's top heroes. Even though he has massive power, he is still very much a common man and perhaps that is why so many identify with him. The Flash is a hero that gives of himself time and time again in the DCU and is very much deserving of his place.
6. Captain Marvel
Although Captain Marvel is unable to use his name on a DC comic, he is still a well known and loved character in the DC universe. Almost as powerful as his counterpart Superman, he is a juggernaut in the DCU and one you call upon in your darkest hour of need.
While still technically considered a sidekick of the Batman and some might see him as in his mentor's shadow, Robin has shown himself to be something much more than this. He is the leader of his own team of heroes in the Teen Titans and has had his own title. There have been many Robin's, but the character is definitely more than the sum of his parts.
8. Green Arrow
The Green Arrow is perhaps a character from another era, but he is still certainly one of DC's top heroes. The Green Arrow is a crack shot with the bow and arrow and is a grizzled veteran of many of DC's global battles. When you only have one shot, you call in the Green Arrow to get it done.
At one time he was the sidekick to Batman, but soon outgrew the uniform and branched off on his own. Not only has Nightwing succeeded, he has grown to be a formidable character in his own right.
10. Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing is surely one of the most recognizable horror comic characters out there. Many top writers cut their teeth on this character and many more seek to write and draw him still. Swamp Thing is one that will continue to mystify and delight his fans all over.
11. Jonah Hex
Jonah Hex is without a doubt one of the top western characters in comics. He is a dark and glum character, born of blood and bullets, and always gets his man. He knows his life will probably end in violence, but it matters not to him. Hex will face that when the time comes and in the mean time he just wants a cheap whiskey and a fine woman.
