Marvel's Civil War was a major turning point for captain America. Captain America took the side of freedom VS Iron Man's more militaristic side. The two drew members from Marvel's heroes and villains to join their respective sides. Iron Man's side won out in the end, but only because Captain America surrendered, seeing the damage he and his side were causing to the American people.
