Summary:

52 is a weekly comic book that chronicles the year after, “Infinite Crisis,” the story in which an alternate reality Superman, Superboy, and Alexander Luthor try to reshape the universe as we know it. The rest of the DC comic book have flashed forward one year later and 52 is being used to tell about what happens during this time.

During this time, the big three, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are MIA. Superman’s powers are temporarily gone and Batman and Wonder Woman seem to be on some sort of a sabbatical. The tagline of the series is, “A year without Superman; a year without Batman; a year without Wonder Woman...but not a year without heroes.”

The series of 52 has been focusing on many different story lines:

1. Steel has decommissioned his armor and his daughter Natasha has gone to Lex Luthor to get real superpowers. Steel has also acquired superpowers, where his body is turning into steel.
2. Renee Montoya and The Question have been investigating an Intergang presence in Gotham City and have tracked them to Khandaq.
3. Black Adam, ruler of Khandaq, is putting together a unity of nations to protect their interests. He was given a slave girl who has become Black Adam’s love interest and Black Adam has given her the Isis amulet, giving her the powers of Isis.
4. Booster Gold has tried to take up the slack where Superman left off, but when a scandal arose where he paid someone to act like a villain, his fans have all but left him. A new hero, Supernova, is beginning to rise in popularity.
5. Creator of the Metal Men, Doctor Magnus is visiting T.O. Morrow, a mad scientist and villain. It appears that someone is kidnapping other mad scientists.
6. Three heroes, Adam Strange, Animal Man, and Starfire are stranded on an alien planet, trying to find a way off. Adam Strange has been blinded.
7. The Elongated Man, Ralph Dibny, is still dealing with the loss of his wife. He has been investigating a new cult that is trying to resurrect Superboy. They offer to resurrect Dibny’s wife, and nearly succeed, but their temple is destroyed in a fight with some of Dibny’s hero friends. Dibny is last seen clutching a doll that was being used in the resurrection under a bridge.

Also included in the back of the series have been some different short stories. The first main arc was the history of the DC universe. Starting with issue 12 and continuing until the end of the series, we will see the secret origins of many of DC characters.
