The Phalanx - King Leonidas

The Phalanx

Copyright Warner Bros. Pictures
The military formation known as the Phalanx was a core part of Greek and particularly Spartan culture. They heavily relied on this tactic that won the day at many a battles, particularly Marathon and Thermopylae, upon which 300 is based. It was often said that other warriors fled at the sight of the bronze shields locked together with the spears bristling out of them.

Here we see a scene on the left from the comic book 300 and on the right from it's movie counterpart. King Leonidas answers Xerxes' offer to submit to his rule.
