What Format Of Comic Should I Buy?

By October 31, 2012

Follow me on:

Most people that start out collecting comic books usually just dive in and start buying willy-nilly, without much thought or knowledge behind the purchase other than the character. I know when I was in 8th grade and got my hands on a Captain America comic, I went nuts to the comic shop and bought as many as I could get my hands on. My personal favorite section of the comic store was the four for one dollar boxes where I loaded myself up on many a classic Captain America tales including the Avengers, The Invaders, and anything else that Cap was attached to. Your start doesn't have to be as messy though as there are actually many formats of comic books nowadays. We have digital comics, graphic novels, and floppy comics to name a few. Take a look at this guide that will help the new collector decide which format will be best for them. What about you? What is your favorite format of comics? Post your thoughts below.

Aaron,
Thank you for your very timely articles on collecting comic books. As an above average pro on comic collecting, I feel I know a lot of the information that you have provided already. I am interested in knowing where to collect comics that are along the line of ‘mature readers’ material. There are a couple of online sites that I buy from (Lonestar and Miles High). Do you know of any others? Thanks!
Andrew
