My nephew came over the other day with something to sell me. He had two comic flip books that he made and was selling them for fifty cents each. Like any good uncle I snatched them up. They were actually pretty good. I know I may be biased, but he had some great things going. There was some organization, nice paneling, and even a decent punch line. It was really cool to see some thought go into his project.
Unfortunately I think I created a monster. The thought of the cash in his hand had his mind racing for new stories. He asked if I had a stapler and paper as he could whip up some more right quick. I know next time I may be out more than a buck, but it is worth it to see the initiative and effort put into this new endeavor.
I see a lot of new comic creators in my day job. Kids read comics, then start dying to tell their own stories. Some are great and refreshing while others rehash some of the same old stories. Either way it's great to see people creating. What is it for you that makes you create? For me it is the inspiration I feel from good stories. It makes me want to share my ideas as well. What is it for you?
