Comic Book Movies Are Silly

I was talking with some friends today over drinks and the topic of current movies came about. We talked about some good ones we've seen lately (The Hurt Locker and Zombieland for me) and some we thought others just had to see (Boondock Saints), one of the guys said he was looking forward to Kick Ass when another said how silly that movie looked. I got to thinking and you know? He's right, comic book based movies are quite silly when you think about it. The spandex, the primary colors, the powers....the list goes on. I like that Kick Ass seems to make a point of this, poking fun at what superheroes would be like in our current reality. I've also like how many current film makers have gotten around this silliness. The X-Men got around this by changing the colors and making their suits leather, a nice touch in my opinion.

Comic book movies are silly, but they have truly added a new wrinkle to the comic book experience. They help amp up the excitement of our fandom, being able to see our heroes in action in new and exciting stories. They have been a very cool part of my comic experience lately and it has been awesome to see how the mainstream audience has grabbed a hold of them just as much as comic book fans have. It has also been neat to see them move forward in terms of special effects and budgets. It is a good day to be a comic book fan.

I agree with you. Shows and movies based on comics can go either way. They’re either very cool or very silly. I think they’ve gotten less silly over the past few years, though. And silly or not, I usually love them!
