Well the announcement came in this week about the new leadership for DC Comics, one of The Big Two in the comic world. With the departure of Paul Levitz as President and Publisher back in September of 2009, there has been speculation as to whom would pick up the slack. These people would be directing the course of the newly formed DC Entertainment, commissioned to not only run DC Comics, but also to bring DC properties to more avenues and media forms, much in the way Marvel has done.
The results have Dan Didio and Jim Lee working as Co-Publishers, and Geoff Johns as Chief Creative Officer. Didio was a fair shoe in as even though some might disagree with his decisions, he has helped shape DC and reclaim some of the ground they lost to Marvel in recent years. Lee was surprising, but totally makes sense given his pioneering work with Image and Wildstorm, and the recent creative directorial role he took with the DC Online game. Johns is perhaps the most surprising, but with is creative work in film, television, and as the chief writer for DC Online, it makes a lot of sense.
I think in the long run, Johns will have the most to prove and it will be interesting to see what he creatively officiates. It will also be interesting to see where DC Entertainment goes, but if this latest rash of DC movies and DVD's are an indication of where things are going, I am very much in favor of DC Entertainment spreading the DC love to as many areas as possible.
