Kick-Ass - The New Comic/Movie Model?

We've all seen how fast the comic series Kick-Ass by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr has been fast-tracked to be made into a movie. Heck, there was the announcement of the film after the first issue or two and there were even trailers of the movie before the series even ended. I kinda think that the late release of the final issues was to give the film producers time to get the movie done and make an easy segue-way from comic to film.

I wonder if this is going to become more and more the model for comics to films. It is almost as if the Kick-Ass movie is the graphic novel for the comic series. Funny to think that the movie almost beat out the actual graphic novel release. The comic is serving to add hype to the movie to add more hype to the comic and subsequent releases.

It's known that some comics are made to be a pitch to movie studios and as Hollywood continues to see gold in the mine of comics it will only continue to be a quick pace to the film studio. I see this as a good thing for fans of the series but I wonder if it will also become a sort of false litmus test. Meaning, that if a series isn't made into a film it isn't good or successful. That, I don't think, will be a good thing in the long run.
