Marvel's Bright New World

It would seem, if the press releases are right, that Marvel Comics is in the middle of a slight paradigm shift. For quite some time, the thrust of Marvel has been to bring a bit of our reality into the Marvel Universe. The Superhero Registration Act was influenced by the headlines of the day, Marvel heroes were forced underground and Civil War was upon them. Next came the Skrull invasion, and then the Dark Reign of Norman Osborne. Lateley, Marvel has been putting out a set of one shot images showcasing the soon to be released Avengers and Secret Avengers titles.

These are all part of an upcoming Heroic Age storyline set to kick off this April. I for one welcome the change. I do like gritty and real world comics, but I also love those comics that take me away from reality. Marvel comics were always those that had characters that had real world flaws, but the storylines were usually kept separate from the headlines of the times. Marvel's past three crossover events have been interesting reads and I've enjoyed them overall, but I am really excited to see them return to something that isn't ripped from today's headlines. It will be neat to see it play out.

I loved Civil War but, as draining as it was I can’t wait to see where The Avengers will take us. I’m going to subscribe to this run especially since they’re starting at issue #1. Hurry up May!!! Great article, by the way!!!
