Rantz Hosely, an editor over at Image Comics is working on launching a new digital comics service entitled Longbox, which was introduced at Heroes Con this last weekend. There is a long report over at
CBR that quotes a lot of the presentation and it is an interesting read. I have long thought that the digital format, while it won't replace the standard print comic, is a great untapped market just looking for someone to give readers the right format and selection. A place like iTunes where songs from just about every major label are available. Longbox is pushing to have a place just like that.
So far, Longbox has BOOM! and Top Cow signed up to have their comics sold through the site, but I think it will take a lot more than that to push Longbox to the top as the premiere digital comics site. I think Marvel is out of the question right now, as they are pushing their own digital format very hard right now. But if they were to get a large publisher on board, like DC Comics, then I think they would have a huge shot at becoming the place to go for your digital comics fix.
