The Louvre of Comics
Sunday June 21, 2009
Comics received their own Louvre this last Saturday in Angoulème, a town in south-west France at the The Musée de la bande dessinée (The Museum of Comic Books). The museum hosts over eight thousand pieces of art and over one hundred and ten thousands magazines and comics. The museum is devoted to having an archive of every French published comic book. The Americans aren’t left out though, as they are also housing a section devoted to such American comics as Peanuts, Superman, and Marvel Comics. M. Lassalle, the curator of the museum says that their crown jewel of the collection in his opinion are the, "...wonderful drawings in the Gaston Lagaffe series by André Franquin." This collection of comics makes it the largest museum in the world and should make this a tourist destination for comic fans the world over. How much are tickets to France?
