What is my comic worth?
Sunday June 14, 2009
This is my number one question of all time. How much is my comic book worth? There are lots of answers to this question, the simplest answer being what a person will pay for it. Ebay is a nice source for real time values and price guides are a good place to find the ideal price. I often find that people won't pay those prices, but if you are looking to insure a collection, it is a good place to start. With the volatility of today's economy, it's important that you don't try to sell a comic for some quick cash without doing your homework, especially if the comic in question is a rare find. I've heard from more than one comic shop about how they scored a collection from a person looking for a quick sale, and found a lot of rare comics in the deal. It's worth the time to research the value of a comic book, as it could save you a lot of money in the long run.

The ‘value’ of my comics has rarely seemed important to me. I’m still surprised (after collecting for close to 50 yrs) that when I tell people that I read and collect comics, the first thing they ask is if I have anything of great value. The fact that I read the books, simply because I enjoy them, doesn’t seem to factor into their thinking.
I understand what you say Steve. But comic books have kind of come main stream in the last several years and comic book collecting for profit has been big business for quite a while now.
Nothing wrong with reading comics, but collecting anything is a sport for many of the masses and comic books are high among collections.
Those not in the know still think geeks read comic books and shrewd investors collect comic books for value. Read to your heart’s continue but keep in mind those who get enjoyment out of collecting for investment also. And there is a happy medium.
I too, get tons of questions at my site about how much is their comic book worth. And to do it right, takes quite an amount of research and due dilegence to determine a fair worth. Many do not understand this.
