To Sell or Not To Sell

Tough economic times often force tough choices. I am not alone in the turmoil, and one tends to look for ways to help alleviate the financial stress during these times. I often feel a bit like Nicolas Cage probably did, looking at all his stuff to decide that there it was time to cull the herd. Now, I don’t have nearly as many comics as Cage did, nor are they worth the same, but I do have many choice items and some of them do not hold the same charm they once did. In looking to take items out of a collection one often goes to the most valuable, but for me, many of my most valuable are more of a personal nature. Don’t think I could part with my Captain America collection, but I do have many others that may not make the cut.

Parting with comics can often be a painful and even a decision filled with regret. It is best to approach your collection slowly, not making rash decisions, and find items that you’re sure you can live without. Then you need to weigh whether an item has a stronger monetary value than an emotional one. You may even have those comics that are near worthless, then you might consider a charity as the tax deduction will be worth more in the long run. At any rate, the weight you lift could also make a big balance in your checking account. Is now the time? Only you can truly tell.

Cutting down the collection due to hard times can be very tough but sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve to do to survive.
Having been a collector for many years and now a dealer I have seen em come and go and it hurts a little less each time. But do take care if you have rare comics or signed comics or just comics that are of a Hi-grade keep in mind if you part with them you may never see them again or may never find that same quaility again.
If your like me and have been around for a while, price to replace them is not going to be what you gave for them, I gave cover price for large part of my 1st collections but when I went back a few years later WOW! what a shock, at first I just brought lower priced issues just to have them but then I realized I was just buying trash. My advice to anyone cutting down their collection is, it’s not the end of the world you can rebuild when good times return, but it’s gonna cost you. With the return of good times prices are going to jump fast and the older, rarer and popular comics are the ones hit first, so buy those first when rebuilding and remember condition is everything.
