Comic Book Decoration

Sunday November 16, 2008
I saw a blog/site called Laughing Pondwhere the premise is for people to post their questions and for others to respond with their answers, some in a comedic way. It's sort of like Yahoo! Answers but more in a grass roots comedy club sort of way. Anyway, one of the questions that recently came up was a person asking about how to use her husbands comics to decorate the living room. The first response was a rather snarky bit that said, "Honestly, you don't. This is going to look pretty lame and like a bachelor pad. Do you have another room, maybe an office, game room, or den, where you could put them up?"

This goes to show that even though comic books have become a huge part of pop-culture, they haven't quite transcended to everything. I would agree with the commentator above that plastering your living room with your comics isn't the best decorating idea, but there are tasteful ways to integrate your comic culture into your decor. As mentioned in one of the comments, nice frames make a great addition to artwork or a cover, taking a normal comic and giving it a formal appearance, great for the wall.

The art piece above is near and dear to me as my wife picked it out and had it framed. It is a print of a recreation of Avengers #4 by Alex Ross. It is one of my favorites as the Captain is my favorite character and this cover is one of my favorite as well. That it came from my wife only makes it more special to me and the black frame really gives it a touch of class on our living room wall. When decorating, be reminded that less is often more in making it look grown up and fitting for a living space. What do you think? What hangs in your living room that is worthy of comic decoration?
